Our Limited Warranty on Used JDM Engines & Transmissions
Every used engine and transmission we sell is imported from Japan, inspected, and tested before it is listed. To give you extra confidence, Chicago JDM Auto Parts backs qualifying engines and transmissions with the limited warranty described on this page.
Days on engines
Used replacement engines and used performance engines.
Days on transmissions
Used replacement transmissions.
Electrical parts & performance transmissions
Electrical and electronic parts and used performance transmissions are sold without a warranty.
Before you buy: please talk to your mechanic or research your vehicle so you are 100% sure the engine or transmission is the right one for it. The warranty covers defects in the part itself; it does not cover a part that does not fit or was ordered for the wrong vehicle.
Coverage
Warranty Periods by Product Type
The warranty period is counted from the date your order is delivered, as shown by the carrier's delivery record.
| Product | Warranty period | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| Used Replacement Engines | 30 days | All internal parts of the engine |
| Used Performance Engines | 30 days | All internal parts of the engine |
| Used Replacement Transmissions | 90 days | All internal parts of the transmission |
| Used Performance Transmissions | No warranty | Sold as-is |
| All Electrical & Electronic Parts | No warranty | Sold as-is (ECUs, harnesses, sensors, modules) |
| Other Used Parts | See listing | Sold as-is unless the product listing states a warranty |
The warranty covers internal parts only. External and bolt-on components — such as sensors, gaskets, seals, hoses, belts, pulleys, and other accessories that come attached to an engine or transmission — are not covered.

What the Warranty Does Not Cover
The limited warranty does not cover any of the following:
- Any loss caused by overheating or misuse of the engine or transmission.
- Towing charges, freight charges, or delivery charges of any kind.
- Any loss caused by improper installation.
- The cost of labor to remove, install, or repair the engine or transmission.
- Any loss caused by modifications, or by using the part for something it was not designed for.
- Any loss caused by a defective or worn timing belt.
- Any loss caused by modification or forced induction, including nitrous oxide (NOS), turbochargers, or superchargers added after purchase.
- Any engine or transmission used for competitive driving, racing, or track events.
- Electrical and electronic parts, and used performance transmissions, which are sold without a warranty.
- Normal wear consistent with a used part, and cosmetic condition such as surface rust, grime, or minor seepage.
Incidental & consequential damages
Chicago JDM Auto Parts is not responsible for incidental or consequential damages arising from loss of use, loss of time, inconvenience, or commercial loss. Our total responsibility under this warranty is limited to replacing the part or refunding its purchase price.
Any implied warranties, including the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, are limited to the length of this written warranty. Some states do not allow limits on how long an implied warranty lasts or the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages, so these limits may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state.
Recommendations
How to Protect Your Warranty
Most early failures of used engines come from installation shortcuts rather than the engine itself. Following these recommendations protects your investment and makes a warranty claim straightforward if you ever need one:
- Have the part installed by a qualified, licensed mechanic and keep the dated repair order or invoice.
- Replace the timing belt (or inspect the timing chain), water pump, and tensioner before installing a used engine. Timing belt failures are not covered.
- Install new filters, fresh oil, coolant, and transmission fluid of the correct type before first start-up.
- Replace inexpensive wear items such as gaskets, seals, spark plugs, and hoses during installation.
- Check for overheating, leaks, and warning lights during the first drives, and stop driving immediately if a problem appears.
- Keep all original parts that came with the unit until the warranty period has ended.

How to Make a Warranty Claim
Contact us within the warranty period
Email jdmchicagoinc@gmail.com or call +1 847-288-0536 with your order number and a description of the problem. Please do not send anything back until we have reviewed your claim.
Send supporting information
Include your mechanic's diagnosis and any test results (for example, a compression or leak-down test), photos, and the installation invoice. This helps us review your claim quickly.
Return the part for inspection
If we ask for the part back, you pay the freight to return it until our staff has inspected it. The engine or transmission must be returned in the same condition it was sent, with all parts included. Missing parts will be charged to you.
Replacement or refund
If our inspection confirms a covered defect, we will ship a replacement unit or refund the purchase price of the part. A replacement ships only after the inspection is complete.
If our inspection finds that the problem is not covered — for example, overheating, installation damage, or a timing belt failure — we will explain our findings and can ship the unit back to you at your cost.

Buyer Responsibilities
Confirm compatibility
Match the engine or transmission code, drive type, and transmission type to your vehicle before ordering. Errors caused by selecting the wrong part are not covered by the warranty.
Emissions compliance
Compliance with federal, state, and local emissions laws is the buyer's responsibility. Check your state's rules before installing a JDM engine in a vehicle used on public roads.
Professional installation
Use a qualified mechanic and follow the manufacturer's procedures and torque specifications. Improper installation is not covered.
Keep your records
Keep your order confirmation, delivery record, installation invoice, and any test results. They are needed for a warranty claim.
This warranty is in addition to any rights you have under the laws of your state. See our Return & Refund Policy for returns that are not warranty claims, such as a wrong item or damage in transit.
